REGIONAL SOCCER FINALS
It came down to a penalty shoot-out against Girton and whilst they didn’t have the luck of the Matildas against France, the Girls’ team played brilliantly and with maximum effort at the Regional finals. We are so proud of their performance and behaviour. Sincere thanks again to Alex for driving and coaching, to Jason and Martin for driving and to Helen and Stephen for making the long trip to support the team. Great job everyone!
GREEN & GOLD FOR THE MATILDAS
Students and staff dressed up in green and gold today in support of the Matildas playing in the semi finals tonight. Go Tillies!
PARENT FORUMS AFTER DROP-OFF NEXT TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY & THURSDAY
Thank you to the family members who have already been in touch. The forums will take place just after drop-off in the staff room next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The forums are an opportunity to view data from the past four years about NAPLAN, student attitudes to school, the parent opinion survey and attendance. It’s also an opportunity to let us know what we’re doing well and what we need to change or improve. If you’re available and would like to be involved in forums next week, giving feedback about our school please let me know: Suzanne.Kinnersly@education.vic.gov.au.

OUTDOOR FURNITURE – SET COMPLETE!
The Newstead Men’s Shed have completed our order for outdoor furniture with three settings on the upper and three on the lower level near Creekview. The furniture is beautifully made and durable. These items were made possible with locally raised funds in 2022 and were identified as a priority by students and staff.
SUNDAY 27 AUGUST WORKING BEE
LET’S TOGETHER TO HELP THE SCHOOL
We are hosting a gathering of gardeners and helpers from 9:30am – 12:30pm. Our Buildings and Grounds committee have had a walk through recently and Blair has ordered about 25 plants, which match those at the front of the school (Teucrium fruiticans) plus about 12 correas.
Planting and mulching will be the main activities along with weeding the garden at front and other areas. If gardening and maintenance is not your thing but you’d enjoy wrangling kids with games and activities you’d be most welcome!
Lisa C has offered to run a sausage sizzle barbecue for workers and their children including a vegie option.
Please RSVP here.

COVID, FLU AND FREE RAPID ANTIGEN TESTS
We currently have families dealing with COVID and with the usual winter bugs doing the rounds, we have struggled to replace staff who are unwell. If your child is symptomatic we request they be kept home as even the spread of colds and flu has an impact here at school. In recent days we have been forced to split classes as there were no relief teachers available. With the continued rise in case numbers in Mt Alexander, please be aware that we have plenty of free rapid antigen test kits available at the school office.
Testing is strongly recommended for students and staff who are symptomatic.
After doing the tests at home, if it is positive, you are advised to:
- let the school know
- keep your child at home for 7 days
If you feel unwell, please call a GP or the National Coronavirus Helpline on 1800 020 080.
For more information on how to manage your symptoms at home, please visit https://www.coronavirus.vic.gov.au/managing-covid-19-home

Parent Opinion Survey
Our school is conducting a survey to find out what parents think of our school. The Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education that is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behavior, and student engagement.
The survey is optional, but we encourage all families to participate. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies. The survey will be open until Friday 8th September and will be an online survey which only takes 20 mins. It can be accessed at any time on desktop computers, tablets, laptops, or smartphones.
Each family has been sent an email with the website and pin to participate in the survey. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the school.
Passions & Pathways Project
The Year 5 & 6 students will be working on a landscaping project with the support of ASQ. We are in need of some adult volunteers on Wednesday the 30th of August. Please let us know if you are available via this form or in person at the office.
Nude Food
Winters Flat is proud to be a Nude Food school and pride ourselves on not needing a bin in the playground. Unfortunately we are seeing lots of wrappers around the playground at the moment. Please ensure your children are binging a nude food lunch to school each day.

Indigenous Literacy Day
We are excited to be raising funds for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation at Winters Flat on Wednesday the 6th of September! As well as the Busking for Change performance, we are organising a Great Book Swap along with some other fabulous activities for the students and wider community - including our 2024 Preps and other Kindergarten aged students.
Early Great Book Swap book donations can be made at the office, or students can bring their book on the day.
We are needing some volunteers to help run the activities. Please RSVP through this form or in person at the office.
More information will follow shortly. It's going to be a fantastic afternoon!

In Art, our texture and printmaking focus has evolved to creating foam block prints. Amazing work by all students in Gr 1-6 last week as they discussed what terms like ‘threatened’ and ‘endangered’ mean, researched or learned about relevant Australian species at risk, and chose a subject.
They then drew and ‘carved’ images onto foam blocks. Next week, we will begin to experiment, adjust and refine while printing our images onto paper.
We cannot wait to see how these prints will turn out!

Kitchen volunteers
We would love some kitchen helpers in our cooking classes. They are held fortnightly on Mondays (even weeks), and every Wednesday, between 11:25am & 1:25pm.
What you can expect from a class: Students work in six groups to make six different dishes. Once a group finishes their dish, they clean up their bench, do dishes, and set the tables. Around 1:00pm, we all sit down together and share the meal.
Volunteers will need to sign in via the visitors log in the office and show their WWCC and Vaccination Certificate. Please contact the Karen or Kitty in the office if you would like to volunteer.
