Welcome and update:
Hello WFPS community. Welcome to term 4.
It is great to be back after taking leave for most of term 3 to recover from an accident. Thank you to everyone for your understanding and kindness.
Unfortunately, Suzanne is on leave this term to provide care for her family. This is a very difficult time and we extend our best wishes to her and her family.
I have taken on the Acting Principal role until October 27th after which time a Department nominee will take on the role for the remainder of the school year. You will be kept up-to-date. However, rest assured that processes and plans for the remainder of 2025 and into 2026 are well underway.
Although we will not have the spectacles of term 3 (eg. Performance, excursion) which unfortunately I missed, this promises to be a big term with chess, tennis, Prep outdoor adventure and grade 1 sleepover, Prep transitions, grade 6 graduations, Step Up and many more! Stay tuned to the calendar.

SunSmart:
Please check that your child/ren have a broad-brimmed, named hat. We are struggling to provide spare hats. Students without a hat are required to stay on the large deck area.
.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any concerns or questions.
Warm regards,
Helen

Castlemaine Secondary College
Hello WFPS families,
I intend to enter student artworks into the Arts & Crafts section of the upcoming Castlemaine Show in November 2025. The cost is $1.00 per junior entry. Entries will be exhibited in the Pavilion near the main entrance. Last year, many of our students received ribbons and prizes!
Students may enter an artwork from home or one currently on display at school. There are sections for 2D and 3D artworks and I will handle the entry forms. I will also prepare and deliver all entered artworks to the Show.
Please bring $1.00 to the office by Friday 17th October (end of Week 2, Term 4) if your child wishes to enter. If the artwork is from home, please have your child bring that too.
Regards,
Bron (Art teacher)
From the Sustainability Committee...
Thank you - West End Fair bake sale success!
Thank you to everyone who contributed time and baked goods to the West End Fair bake sale. It was a huge success, raising just over $1,000 for Winters Flat. Not only did we sell out of everything, but we had many compliments on the beautiful and delicious spread on offer. Thank you, too, to all the families who came out to support the bake sale and the fair. Winters Flat's presence as the neighbourhood school was very felt on the day, helping to turn this into an annual event - stay tuned for next year!
A 'good ol days' bike shed at Winters Flat! Call out for building materials donations
To help encourage kids and parents to ride to school, the Sustainability Sub-committee is leading the build of a bike shed built from second-hand materials. And we have already hit go! The ground is level, hardstand is down, and post holes are dug. Now, we need the materials ?
The site is behind the art room in a nice, safe, visible location, and a great size (10m by 3m by 2.5m high). There is room for plenty of loved bikes.
We are seeking donations of the following materials to construct the shed itself:
· 4 posts at 3m long
· 4 posts at 2.5m long
· Beams for the roof. Dimensions of 200mm by 40mm at 2.5m long or above. We will need a total of ~20m in lengths
· Corrugated iron for the walls and roof, lengths of 1m or more. Any colours welcome ?
· Timbers for roof and wall joists, 100mm by 50mm or similar.
If you don't have materials to spare but would be willing to make a donation for the purchase of some of the materials we will need to buy new, please contact the office.
We will be in touch about a working bee to get the build done once we have all materials ready.

The Castlemaine Rocky Riders Mountain Bike Club, Dirt Crits Series starts Thursday 6th November and registrations are now open! Dirt Crits is a junior cross country mountain bike event series, consisting of 10 rounds of mountain biking fun (5 in Nov-Dec 2025, 5 in Feb-Mar 2026) at the Walmer Forest trailhead, Daltons Road Castlemaine.
Dirt Crits are run as a handicapped format, with individual start times and laps to complete calculated week-to-week, based on lap times. So on any given week, anyone can win!
There are two categories: Dirt Cubs (age 3-7 ) & Dirt Masters (ages 8-14 )
Dirt Crits are all about fun. We encourage riders of all abilities to come and have a go, either to compete, or to just roll around and enjoy our local trails in a friendly and inclusive environment.
Cost of entry for each week of racing is just a gold coin donation.
