SCHOOLWIDE POSITIVE BEHAVIOUR SUPPORT (SWPBS) FOCUS

At the moment our school is focussed on the school wide goal of waiting to take our turn during instructions or discussions and putting up our hands if we wish to join in. At the moment every class is keeping score of when people are allowing the speaker to talk, as well as when that doesn’t happen. When we chose this as our focus a couple of weeks ag,o we started with between 40 - 60 interruptions per day. We’re hoping to get down to 3 per day per class. One class has already doubled their tally of the positives of allowing the speaker to talk, to the negative tally of calling out. This is something we can do with everyone’s help. We are also encouraging all students to think of a whole school reward or treat when we make our target.

ASSEMBLIES

Our next assembly is on Monday 15th March at 2:25pm and will be hosted by 5/6B.

Parents/carers are welcome to come along. Please sign in at the office first.

.

SCHOOL COUNCIL

Nomination forms are available from the office for the 2021 Winters Flat School Council. There are three parent/carer positions and two DE&T positions. Nominations close on Tuesday. This is a great way to get more involved in our school. This year we meet on the third Tuesday of the month and we will alternate our meetings between on-site at 6:00pm and Webex at 7:00pm. We’d love you to join us this year.

.

The role of Class Rep is one you might also like to consider. It’s a way to connect the families of your child’s class with each other, to organise social events as well as posting reminders about class and school events. Let your child’s teacher know if you’d like to be class rep for the class.

Camps, Sports and Excursion Fund Applications

The Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund helps eligible families to cover the costs of school trips, camps and sporting activities.

If you have a valid means-tested concession card, such as a Veterans Affairs Gold Card, Centrelink Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card, or are a temporary foster parent, you may be eligible. There is also a special consideration category for asylum seeker and refugee families.

Payment amounts this year are $125 for eligible primary school students. Payments are made direct to the school to use towards expenses relating to camps, excursions and sporting activities for the benefit of your child.

If you applied for CSEF through our school last year, you do not need to complete an application form this year, unless there has been a change in your family circumstances.

If you would like to apply for the first time, you can download the form here. Forms are also available at the office.

You can also download the form, and find out more about the program and eligibility, on the Department of Education and Training’s Camps, Sports and Excursions Fund web page.

Please return completed forms to the office as soon as possible.

.

A notice titled 'Confidential student information' was sent home with the eldest child on Monday.

Please carefully read and complete the confidential attached form (on both sides), in order for the school to update our records of student details. If there is any information that is incorrect, please write the updated information next to each item where necessary.

Could you please return the form to the front office as soon as possible. Even if there are no changes, could you please return the form to the school indicating this.

Thank you to those parents/carers who have already returned them.

.

Head Lice

It has come to our attention that some students in the school may have head lice. We seek your cooperation in checking your child/ren's hair, and in those instances where head lice or eggs are found, treating their hair.

Health regulations requires that when a child has head lice, they should not return to school until the live head lice have been treated.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us in the office.

We understand head lice can be a sensitive issue and we are committed to maintaining your confidentiality.

.

We have had an increasing amount of students coming to the office at lunchtime and telling us they have eaten their lunch at recess and are still hungry. Please chat with your child/ren to see if this is them and if they would like more food in their lunchbox.

Hello Winters Flat Primary School community :)

March is a pretty appropriate time of the year to take a breath and consider how you and your family are feeling. Summer is almost over (but I’m sure there’re some more warm days ahead!) and we are only a month away from school holidays. This time of the year can feel busy for families as the momentum and pressure of working, school and other commitments increase. These pressures effect young people in our society in various ways. One in three young Australians are experiencing high or very high levels of psychological distress which is triple the number since 2007. One in four secondary students are experiencing mental health problems and one in  three primary students are experiencing mental health problems.

A simple and effective way of slowing things down and giving yourself a chance to reflect on the wellbeing of yourself and your family is to bring some form of mindfulness into your lives. This is often easier said than done but can also be as easy as playing a mindfulness meditation recording to your kids or setting the kids up to do some yoga using a video on Youtube. Here are some useful links:

Remember, if you are concerned about the wellbeing of your child for any reason please let the school know so we can support you and your family. Reasons can included changes to your family or living arrangements, emotionally intense events or experiences, mental health concerns such as anxiety, and peer related challenges at school or home.

If you or anyone you know needs support call Lifeline on 131 114 or Beyond Blue 1300 22 4636. Raising Children is also an excellent resource for families: https://raisingchildren.net.au/

Stay well and stay connected.
