Can you Help with our Fundraising Efforts for the School?
If you’re available to help at the WFPS stall at the Paul Bangay Open Garden on 17th November or on Sunday 18th November, we’d love to see you there. You can sign up here. If you can’t make it, but have some old family recipes; homemade preserves will be in high demand and your donations (clearly labelled jars with ingredients) will be most welcome as will shortbreads and biscuits (recipes are also on our website). There will be a strawberry jam making session in the kitchen this Monday. We are seeking donations of strawberries, lemons and sugar, as well as helpers to make it.
State Election
Winters Flat PS is a polling booth for the State Election on Saturday 24th November and on that day we hope to have barbecues selling bacon and egg rolls with a vegetarian option, sausages, as well as a cake stall. We are seeking volunteers from our school community to make cakes for the cake stall, sell cakes and assist with the barbecue on polling day from 8.00am – 2.00pm. If you can help - let us know...

The competition was open to students in Years 3-6 and was conducted in strict exam conditions. Of the thirteen students who took part we would like to acknowledge Lewin (Year 3) who achieved a High Distinction as well as Jacob (Year 3) and Maeve (Year 5) who both achieved Distinction. Congratulations to all the children from Winters Flat PS who took part.
Orphfund Halloween Dress-up Day
Today’s dress-up day was initiated by the students in 1/2M. The gold coin donations will go towards the Orphfund.
End of Year School Celebration
Our End of Year and Xmas celebration will be held at school in the last week of term from 5.00pm – 7.00pm on Wednesday 19th December. The focus will be on music and singing that night, commencing with student performances. We invite musicians in our community to make contact if they’d like to be part of the entertainment that evening and may even include some community karaoke sing-a-longs.
The Christmas stall will be available as well as pizzas and a barbecue.
Please contact the office if you (and your band) would like to perform.

It was a great day of sporting action; chatting and chilling with mates from Winters Flat, Castlemaine North and Campbell's Creek. We all had fun, which of course is the main thing! Special thanks again goes to Donna Parsons and Helen Butcher! You are both legends and will be sorely missed beyond 2018. Thank you!
NEWS | From The Listening Post
From the Listening Post…
Hi everyone,
The Tuesday morning drop ins from 8.30 – 9.30 am in the French room will now be run as a Q & A based around themes of common interest. If you have a theme you are curious about, in regard to child development and wellbeing, parenting, etc. please let me know, and I will put it on the agenda. This week I have drawn the theme from a key presenting challenge at school over the past two weeks: navigating friendship groups. The staff at WFPS have been supporting children both individually, in small groups and in the classroom, to develop skills and strategies to navigate the dynamics and diversity of friendship. Friendships are important for all children. Come along to discuss some of the strategies we use to support children in building friendships as well as the occasional repair work required to maintain friendships, with Heather, me and other parents and caregivers.
The forum I mentioned in the previous Flat Chat will not be going ahead this term but we hope to organise one for early next year. In the meantime I encourage parents and caregivers to drop in on Tuesdays or leave me a note in my letterbox or via email if they have any areas of concern or celebration they would like to share with other parents and caregivers. Heather Blakey is back from visiting her new grandchild and will be joining us on the Tuesday mornings as a volunteer.
The French room is currently used on Fridays and Tuesday mornings only. It is available for use at other times as a meeting space. If you are interested in forming a group of parents/caregivers who want to meet to craft, share ideas or fund raise on behlaf of the school please let us know. It's is a lovely, kids-friendly space to work together.
Always wanted to be a librarian? Love to dig in the garden? Do you fancy yourself as a bit of an interior designer? Are you a passionate fundraiser? Or simply want to help around the school, but don’t quite know how to go about it? We have so many jobs you can do at the school – and we want to hear from you. Watch the website in the coming month for ‘volunteer positions vacant' – and if you don’t see your perfect job there – tell us about it, and we will try and create if for you! It really does take a village to raise a child, and the more the merrier! Call Liz, Karen or me at the school and we will make sure we find a job suited to you – we greatly appreciate all offers of help!
Cheers,
Kim.

School Council Meeting held on Monday October 22nd 2018: Summary of Meeting `
Our last School Council meeting was held on Monday October 22nd 2018. As a group, we reflected on what has worked well since our last meeting, including the Grade 5/6 camp in Marysville, and launch of the Penhall Project organised by Juliet, and the Circular Rhythm Performance.
Reports were presented by each of the School Council subcommittees. These subcommittees are: Finance; Student Leadership; Wellbeing; Community Engagement; Buildings and Grounds, Sustainability, and Fundraising. Suzanne reported that a number of staff will be participating in the four day Berry Street Training.
We are gearing up for our two major fundraisers; The Paul Bangay Open Garden and the Election BBQ. A special thank you goes to Kim Collins for all her work on the Maldon Community Bank’s Building Children’s Resilience Grant.
We will be running a pilot program involving reflective practice sessions for teaching staff in the Mount Alexander Shire. The aim is to support children with key transition points from kinder to primary school, and from primary school to high school.
We continue to work on our communication strategy, and are continually updating the school website. Any feedback is welcome.
The next school council meeting is scheduled for Monday 19th November 2018.
Katie Wilson —School Council President.
